Pezeshkian points to new prospects for Baku–Tehran relations

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has said that relations between Iran and Azerbaijan could enter a new stage of development.

“There are now all the conditions in place for relations between Iran and Azerbaijan to enter a new stage of development,” Pezeshkian said, according to foreign media.

He said conditions had also been created for the development of relations and the signing of important agreements with Azerbaijan, Saudi Arabia, Türkiye, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Oman, Egypt and Turkmenistan.

Pezeshkian added that the language of force was futile and said Iran was relying on dialogue and good-neighbourly relations.

Earlier, on August 19, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said that Pezeshkian places particular importance on personal dialogue with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev.

According to Araghchi, Pezeshkian’s visit to Baku in July gave fresh impetus to bilateral relations, while a phone call during which the Iranian leader greeted his Azerbaijani counterpart in his native language “completely changed the situation” in perceptions between the two countries.
