Latvia's foreign minister defends Ukraine's right to use NATO arms in Russia
Latvia's Foreign Minister Baiba Braze has defended Ukraine's recent incursions into Russian territory, asserting that Kyiv "has the right" to use weapons supplied by NATO in its defense.
Latvia, one of Ukraine's most steadfast NATO allies, contributes 0.25% of its GDP annually to military aid for Ukraine, Caliber.Az reports via BBC.
In a BBC Newshour interview, Braze emphasized that "they are Ukrainian weapons" and stated that "a consultation among legal experts within NATO countries" concluded that "the right to self-defense also includes the right to counterattack".
Her remarks come in response to Russian President Vladimir Putin's previous warning that the use of NATO-supplied weapons on Russian soil would cross a "red line".
Braze also dismissed Russian claims that Ukrainian forces are targeting civilians as mere "propaganda," highlighting that Ukraine has consistently communicated that their attacks are aimed solely at military targets.
