Light aircraft crash kills two during flight experience in Essex, UK
Two people were killed after a light aircraft crashed into a field in Essex, UK, with police describing the incident as a "short flight experience."
It said the two-seat Cessna came down in a field off Mill Lane in Ongar after taking off from North Weald Airfield, about seven miles away, Caliber.Az reports, citing Sky News.
The aircraft had been conducting a brief experience flight when the accident occurred.
Detective Chief Superintendent Morgan Cronin of the Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate said the aircraft took off from North Weald airfield on what was expected to be a short journey.
“The two-seat Cessna aircraft was carrying out a short flight experience, but sadly it did not return. At 12.30 pm, we were contacted by members of the public who reported a small aircraft had crashed in a field off Mill Lane, Ongar. Sadly, we can now confirm that the two people on board have died," he noted.
The victims have not yet been formally identified.
Cronin made it clear that investigators worked through the night, with detectives and forensic specialists examining the crash site alongside the Air Accidents Investigation Branch.
He added that officers are also coordinating with the fire service, North Weald Airfield and Epping Forest District Council to establish the circumstances surrounding the crash.
