Lithuania considers joining US-backed Gaza Board of Peace
Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda has indicated that his country is open to considering participation in the Board of Peace on Gaza, an initiative launched by US President Donald Trump, but emphasised that any decision would be made in coordination with other Baltic and Northern European nations.
Nausėda confirmed that Lithuania had received an invitation to join the board through unofficial channels, Delfi reports.
He stated that the government had received preliminary signals regarding both interest and reluctance from potential participants and that Lithuania would evaluate its involvement in consultation with its NB8 (North Baltic Eight) partners.
The Lithuanian president also expressed reservations about the inclusion of certain countries, particularly Belarus, describing their participation as “grotesque” despite the initiative’s emphasis on peace.
He acknowledged that the word “peace” in the board’s title gives the initiative an initially appealing impression. Nausėda also alluded to other invited states with “exotic names,” but did not specify which countries he meant.
