Lithuania issues protest to Belarus over detained trucks
Lithuania’s Foreign Ministry has delivered a formal note of protest to the Belarusian embassy following the continued detention of Lithuanian trucks on Belarusian territory.
Lithuania has told Belarus it views the continued detention of Lithuanian trucks, trailers, and semi-trailers as “an intentional seizure of property” and a “serious breach of international law,” Caliber.Az reports per foreign media.
The ministry demanded an immediate end to these actions and warned that Lithuania may pursue legal action and take further measures at both national and European levels.
Lithuania reopened border checkpoints with Belarus ahead of schedule on the night of 20 November.
Despite this, no trucks registered in Lithuania have returned. The Lithuanian National Association of Road Carriers (Linava) reports that around 4,500 Lithuanian trucks, trailers, and semi-trailers remain in Belarus, with roughly 1,300 held at designated parking sites.
