Louvre seeks Israeli security firm’s help in jewel heist probe
The Louvre has sought assistance from the Israeli security company CGI Group in investigating the recent jewel heist.
The company’s CEO Zvi Naveh said the Louvre had made an exceptional request, asking for assistance in identifying the thieves and recovering the stolen works of art, Caliber.Az reports, citing Bild.
He noted that the firm normally does not comment on its clients or activities in Israel or abroad.
Founded by former Shin Bet chief Yaakov Peri, CGI Group previously helped German authorities solve the 2019 Dresden Castle robbery, when treasures from the Saxon Wettin dynasty worth €113 million were stolen from the Green Vault.
The collaboration follows the October 19 theft, when nine jewellery pieces from the collection of Napoleon III and Empress Eugénie were stolen from the Louvre’s Apollo Gallery.
The missing items include a necklace, a brooch, and a tiara.
One of the pieces was later found outside the museum in damaged condition.
