Israel charges two northern residents over alleged Daesh attack plots

28 August 2026 12:34

Israeli prosecutors are set to file indictments against a 16-year-old and a 19-year-old man from northern Israel who are accused of pledging allegiance to Daesh and planning attacks against Israeli security forces.

The suspects were arrested in separate operations following a joint investigation by the Shin Bet security agency and the Northern District Police's Central Unit, Caliber.Az reports, citing Israeli media.

The 16-year-old, a resident of the Galilee, was arrested on August 4 after investigators allegedly discovered that he had contacted Daesh and pledged allegiance to the group.

According to the authorities, investigators found that the teenager had searched online for material containing instructions on preparing explosive belts. He is also accused of planning an attack against Jewish police officers and soldiers at the Temple Mount.

Several days after his arrest, investigators detained a second suspect, identified as 19-year-old Haifa resident Ibrahim Ka'abia. He is accused of also pledging allegiance to Daesh and planning an attack on an IDF base in northern Israel.

The allegations have not been tested in court.

The Haifa District Prosecution is expected to file indictments against both suspects on Friday and seek their detention until the conclusion of legal proceedings at the Haifa District Court.
