Macron: French soldier dies from injuries sustained in Lebanon ambush
A French soldier has died after being seriously wounded during an ambush in southern Lebanon, President Emmanuel Macron said.
Corporal Anicet Girardin, who served in the 132nd Cynotechnical Infantry Regiment based in Suippes, had been injured in an attack attributed to Hezbollah fighters. He was repatriated to France but died from his injuries shortly afterward, Caliber.Az reports.
Macron stated in a post on X that the soldier had died in service to France and expressed condolences to his family, loved ones, and others affected by the incident.

He also noted that France would pay tribute to Warrant Officer Florian Montorio, who was fatally wounded in the same ambush.
The French president highlighted the role of French forces deployed as part of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon, emphasising their ongoing efforts to support peace and stability in Lebanon.
