Macron urges France to prepare for "wars to come"
French President Emmanuel Macron has called on the country to prepare for "wars to come" during an address to the French armed forces, The Guardian reports.
The report said that, according to Macron, it is today's wars that they should win.
"Yes, we must prepare for the wars to come. But let us not be mistaken: our ability to wage them will depend on our credibility today. It is today’s wars that we must win," Macron noted.
The French president cited support for Ukraine and partners in the Middle East among France's current priorities.
He also stressed that France should strengthen its military capabilities, including through joint procurement initiatives and closer cooperation with European Union allies.
Earlier, Nicolas Dupont-Aignan, leader of the Debout la France party, warned that Macron's proposal to send troops to Ukraine and spend tens of billions of euros on what he described as an endless conflict could lead to a third world war.
The politician called the idea a reckless provocation and described the French president's statements as madness.
