Mark Zuckerberg’s company “seeks cures for all diseases”

28 May 2026 22:14

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg and his wife Priscilla Chan have announced the launch of a project that they say could “accelerate the discovery of treatments and prevention methods for all diseases,” Le Figaro Santé (LFS) reports.

The project involves a massive protein atlas — a digital system capable of analysing and modelling the structure of proteins, the key molecules involved in the functioning of the human body. The developers describe it as a tool designed to accelerate biomedical research, and it has already been made available to scientific laboratories around the world.

The initiative was unveiled by the Biohub research centre founded by Zuckerberg and Chan. According to the developers, the system functions like a “search engine” for biology: it helps predict protein properties, create new molecules, and identify potential therapeutic candidates. This could reduce the drug development process from months or years to just a matter of days.

Proteins play a central role in all biological processes — from the functioning of the immune system to the development of diseases, including cancer. However, their behaviour is extremely difficult to predict, and much of protein biology remains poorly understood. According to the creators, the new AI-powered atlas could help bridge this gap.

The system is based on the analysis of billions of genetic sequences collected from various life forms. The developers noted that the model has already made it possible to create molecules with specific desired properties, a significant number of which have successfully passed laboratory testing.

“Proteins are the engine of life. We have introduced a model that will allow the scientific community to better understand and utilise their properties in the development of new treatments,” said Biohub’s chief scientific officer, Alex Reeves.

The developers hope the technology will accelerate the creation of treatments for cancer and autoimmune diseases. The project is currently undergoing scientific validation, and its results are awaiting independent peer review.
