Media: China highlights ongoing commitment to humanitarian aid for Ukraine
Spokesman for the China International Development Cooperation Agency Li Ming has reiterated China's commitment to providing humanitarian aid to Ukraine, emphasising that future assistance will be tailored to the needs and requests of the involved parties.
He highlighted that since the conflict began, China has already sent four shipments of humanitarian aid to Kyiv, Caliber.Az reports via Ukrainian media.
The spokesman assured that China would continue to be a positive force for peace and stability in the region.
"We are prepared to continue providing assistance within our capabilities, in accordance with the needs of the parties involved, including post-war reconstruction," Li Ming said.
This statement was made in response to remarks by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who stated last month that China could help in the restoration of peace and the reconstruction of the country.
The Chinese government's stance on Ukraine was further underscored during a February meeting at the Munich Security Conference. Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi expressed that Beijing views Kyiv as a friend and partner and is dedicated to strengthening long-term relations between China and Ukraine.
The total cost of Ukraine's reconstruction over the next decade is estimated at $524 billion, according to a joint report from the Ukrainian government, the World Bank, the European Commission, and the United Nations.
Currently, Kyiv, with the support of international partners and the private sector, has already raised $13 billion for reconstruction efforts. Li Ming also reminded that since the beginning of the war, China has provided Ukraine with four shipments of humanitarian aid. In March 2022, Beijing sent its first humanitarian aid package worth 5 million yuan (approximately $790,000), and later offered an additional 10 million yuan ($1.57 million).
