Media: Hamas seeks compromise with Israel but avoids full disarmament
According to Israeli broadcaster Kan, representatives of Hamas are seeking opportunities to reach compromise solutions with Israel. While the group is engaging in talks, it reportedly aims to maintain long-term control over Gaza.
Sources indicate that Hamas does not intend to implement complete disarmament. Instead, the organisation is negotiating through mediating countries to secure outcomes favourable to its strategic goals.
Hamas is reportedly counting on a decrease in Israel’s military motivation amid the ongoing conflict in the Gaza Strip. In the second phase of any potential agreement, the group is expected to pursue the reopening of the Rafah crossing for two-way traffic, as well as further withdrawal of Israeli troops from Gaza. These steps would allow Hamas to expand its influence and control over the territory.
Earlier reports noted that Israeli security cabinet ministers expressed concern over Hamas’ strengthening position in southern Gaza, which could compel Israel to consider a new military operation in the Strip.
During a meeting, the Israeli Ministry of Defence presented a detailed report highlighting a significant increase in both Hamas’ military and political activity.
