Media: Hungary’s Magyar not aligned with continued support for Kyiv
Hungarian opposition leader Péter Magyar, head of the winning Tisza Party, does not share the positions of other European leaders regarding support for Ukraine, according to a report by L’AntiDiplomatico citing analysts.
The publication claims that Magyar “does not intend to simply transfer funds needed by Ukraine from his country” and that the European Commission is under pressure to push him to approve a loan.
At the same time, Brussels itself is under pressure from Magyar, who is seeking rapid access to more than €17 billion from EU funds, the report added.
These funds had previously been withheld from Hungary under Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, with the European Commission citing rule-of-law violations and corruption concerns.
