Media: Iran's new supreme leader undergoing treatment in Moscow
Iran’s newly appointed Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, was secretly transported to Moscow by a Russian military plane for medical treatment and security reasons, Al‑Jarida reports, citing a source close to the leadership.
The source said that Khamenei underwent a successful operation in the Russian capital and is currently receiving treatment at a private clinic within one of the presidential residences.
According to the report, Khamenei sustained injuries during the initial strikes on Iran on February 28. Continued attacks in the country reportedly made local treatment difficult, prompting the decision to transfer him to Moscow.
The source added that Russian President Vladimir Putin had previously offered, during a phone call with his Iranian counterpart Masoud Pezeshkian, to arrange Khamenei’s treatment in Russia. Iranian officials, including Khamenei himself, reportedly considered and approved the offer.
