Moldova elects head for Gagauzia autonomy
The Moldovan Gagauzia autonomy parliament has elected a head for the autonomy.
Accordingly, “Shor” party candidate Eugenia Gutul has been elected for the post, Interfax reports.
As reported, the decision was unanimously adopted by the autonomy's MPs on May 16 evening.
Gagauz MPs convened for an emergency meeting after the National Anticorruption Centre (NACC) of Moldova searched the Gagauz Central Election Commission (CEC) for "illegal funding of the election campaign".
Documents and electoral lists were seized.
It happened immediately after the Central Electoral Commission of Gagauzia approved the results of the Bashkan election. According to the results of the second round of elections held on May 14, the candidate of the "Shor" party, Eugenia Gutul, was elected as the Bashkan.
The Gagauz MPs also voted to organise a congress of MPs of all levels of Gagauzia on May 27. They intend to discuss the situation in the autonomy and relations with the centre.
