Moldovan parliament approves resolution on country's European integration
The Moldovan parliament has approved a resolution on Moldova's European integration, adopted at a May 21 pro-European rally organised by President Maia Sandu and the ruling Action and Solidarity Party.
According to the portal, 55 out of 101 MPs spoke in favour of the initiative, Gazeta.ru reports citing NewsMaker.
As noted, the document was mainly supported by Action and Solidarity representatives, with only one third-party MP joining them - Gaik Vartanyan, who previously left the opposition bloc of Communists and Socialists. The text of the resolution states that the Moldovan parliament supports the declaration of European integration as the state's priority.
When asked by opposition lawmakers why the authorities did not want to organise a referendum to find out Moldovans' opinion about joining the EU, deputy parliament speaker Mihai Popușoi said the country was not yet close enough to accession to hold a plebiscite.
