NATO secretary general’s term may be extended

Jens Stoltenberg's term as NATO secretary general may be extended, as key NATO member states positively assess his approach to the situation in Ukraine.

Stoltenberg was to resign on October 1, 2022, but in March 2022, the leaders of the NATO member states during the summit decided to extend his mandate until September 30, 2023, Caliber.Az reports citing the Russian media.

“I can’t say for sure, as there is no final decision yet. I'm just saying that among the decision-makers in NATO, there is such an idea [about prolongation of powers]," the source said.

Stoltenberg has been leading NATO for nine years.
