Romania, Ukraine consider joint drone production in Brasov
Romania's Ministry of Defence has confirmed plans to negotiate with Ukrainian officials over a potential partnership to jointly produce military drones on Romanian soil.
The move, inspired by similar agreements Ukraine has reached with Denmark and Norway, Caliber.Az reports, citing Romanian broadcaster Digi24.
According to the Ministry, Romanian and Ukrainian engineers would collaborate to manufacture drones using Ukrainian-developed designs, refined through extensive wartime experience.
Production is expected to be based in Brasov, with initial output supplying the Romanian Armed Forces. Additional units could then be exported to other European countries.
The arrangement would involve Romania acquiring technical specifications and know-how from Ukraine, in exchange for financial investment.
However, limited defence funding could delay implementation until 2026, when Romania’s next military budget is expected to be approved.
The Defence Minister is set to meet his Ukrainian counterpart to explore the deal further.
