Global sugar prices hit more than one-year high

Sugar prices on the global market rose by nearly 2%, reaching their highest level in more than a year, according to ICE Futures data.

The data showed that, on August 28, the October sugar futures contract had risen 1.76% to 18.54 cents per pound, which was the highest level since April 8, 2025, Caliber.Az reports.

Sugar prices have risen 26.5% since the beginning of August.

Brazil, India and the European Union remain the world’s leading sugar producers.

Brazil accounted for about 23.5% of global production in the 2025/26 season, followed by India at 18.6% and the EU at 8.2%.

Global sugar production increased 4.6% year-on-year in the 2025/26 season to 189.3 million tonnes, while global consumption also rose 1.3% to 178.7 million tonnes.
