Over 60,000 Ukrainian troops trained in EU, Poland hosts key operations
More than 60,000 Ukrainian Armed Forces soldiers have been trained in EU member states, the Military Publishing Institute (Wojskowy Instytut Wydawniczy, WIW) under Poland's Defence Ministry announced on December 11.
According to the statement, the European Union Military Assistance Mission Ukraine (EUMAM UA) has been operating for two years, Caliber.Az reports via Russian media.
"Over 60,000 Ukrainian soldiers have already completed their training. Nearly one in four were trained in Poland," the statement noted.
The WIW highlighted that soldiers in Poland acquire specialized knowledge and skills in a variety of military disciplines, including armoured and mechanized operations, artillery, air defence, engineering, and logistics (such as vehicle mechanics).
In addition to Poland, military instructors from 16 other EU member states participate in courses organized under the CAT-C (Combined Arms Training Command) programme in the Polish city of Żagań.
Note that, the European Union's military training mission for Ukraine is on course to raise its target from 60,000 to 75,000 soldiers by the end of the year, EU’s chief diplomat, Josep Borrell stated in September.
Initiated in 2022, the training programme has been a vital component of the EU’s military assistance to Ukraine. It aims to adapt swiftly to wartime conditions, incorporating Ukrainian trainers and fostering closer cooperation with Ukraine and NATO.
