Zelenskyy, Starmer coordinate on drone support, sanctions, peace talks
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a conversation with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, focusing on potential negotiation formats with Russian President Vladimir Putin and ways to halt ongoing violence.
According to the Ukrainian president, the discussion touched on urgent measures to stop Russian attacks that recently resulted in the deaths of 31 civilians, including five children, Caliber.Az reports, citing Zelenskyy’s official Telegram channel.
Zelenskyy conveyed Starmer’s condolences over the tragic loss of life caused by Russian missile and drone strikes on Kyiv. The leaders explored strategies to increase protection for Ukrainian civilians and bring an end to the war.
A key point in their talks was the urgent need to boost production of drones, particularly interceptor drones, to better defend against attacks. Zelenskyy indicated that both sides acknowledged a financial requirement to achieve this and agreed to seek solutions.
The conversation also covered the effectiveness of sanctions against Russia. Zelenskyy emphasised that despite Russia’s attempts to downplay their impact, sanctions are working and will continue to intensify through coordinated international efforts.
Furthermore, Zelenskyy and Starmer discussed cooperation with American partners, including aligning steps with US President Donald Trump.
They agreed on preparing for active diplomatic engagement with European and American allies, aligning positions ahead of forthcoming international meetings to support peace negotiations at the leadership level.
