Hamas delegation heads to Cairo for Gaza ceasefire talks

A Hamas delegation is travelling to Cairo to finalise negotiations with Israel on the second phase of the plan to resolve the situation in the Gaza Strip, with the disarmament of the group's armed wing remaining the main unresolved issue.

During the visit, Hamas representatives are expected to meet with mediators from Egypt, Qatar and Türkiye, as well as with Palestinian factions, to strengthen the ceasefire and ensure implementation of all commitments outlined in the plan, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media.

The report said Hamas has expressed a positive stance toward the roadmap proposed by the Board of Peace and the mediators, provided that Israel agrees to its terms.

On the previous evening, July 27, Hamas announced its readiness to implement two provisions of the Board of Peace's settlement plan that had remained under discussion.

On January 22, representatives of 19 countries signed the Charter of the Board of Peace on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos. Washington later said that additional countries had joined the organisation.

The Board of Peace was established under an agreement between Israel and Hamas to oversee the administration of Gaza, but it is also expected to work on preventing and resolving conflicts in other regions.
