Media: Hamas signals willingness to accept key provisions of Gaza peace plan

The Palestinian movement Hamas has agreed in principle to implement two previously disputed provisions of a peace plan for the Gaza Strip, private sources told Al Arabiya.

The broadcaster reported that Hamas's leadership in Gaza informed the group's leadership abroad that it had accepted points 5 and 8 of the settlement plan proposed by the Trump-led Board of Peace.

Point 5 reportedly calls for the separation of Hamas's military wing from the civilian administration in Gaza, as well as from personnel working in civilian institutions.

Point 8 outlines a gradual disarmament process for Hamas's armed forces under international supervision. Under the proposal, weapons held by the group's supporters would be transferred to newly established Palestinian institutions operating under the auspices of, and in coordination with, the Board of Peace rather than being handed over to Israel.

The Board of Peace was established under an agreement between Israel and Hamas to oversee the governance of Gaza and is also expected to play a broader role in conflict prevention and resolution in other regions.

On January 22, representatives from 19 countries signed the Board of Peace Charter on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos. U.S. officials later said that additional countries had joined the organisation.
