Damascus forms special committee to investigate Al-Sweida violations
The Syrian Ministry of Justice has announced the formation of a special investigative committee tasked with examining the recent unrest in the southern province of Al-Sweida, with a mandate to uncover the parties and organizations responsible for violations committed against local citizens.
The committee will investigate the sequence of events that led to the outbreak of violence, assess alleged attacks on civilians, and determine accountability, Caliber.Az reports, citing Syrian media.
Those found to have participated in or orchestrated unlawful actions will be brought to trial in accordance with Syrian law.
The decision to establish the committee reflects mounting pressure to address grievances in Al-Sweida, a predominantly Druze province that has seen sporadic anti-government protests and unrest in recent months.
The committee is required to submit periodic reports detailing its findings and progress, and, as stipulated in the resolution, must present a final report within three months of its formation. It will also be authorized to consult and collaborate with experts, specialists, and relevant institutions as needed to fulfill its mandate effectively.
The Ministry of Justice emphasized that the initiative aims to ensure transparency and uphold the rule of law in addressing the concerns of Al-Sweida residents.
