Zelenskyy receives “Four Freedoms” award in the Netherlands
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has arrived in the Netherlands, where he accepted the prestigious Four Freedoms Award on behalf of the Ukrainian people.
The honour recognises the courage and resilience demonstrated by Ukrainians in defending freedom and democratic values under the extreme conditions of Russia’s ongoing war, Caliber.Az reports per Ukrainian media.
The award takes its name from a landmark 1941 speech by Franklin D. Roosevelt, in which he outlined four fundamental human rights: freedom of speech and expression, freedom of religion, freedom from want, and freedom from fear.
Established in 1982, the Four Freedoms Award is presented to individuals and organisations that have made significant contributions to advancing these principles. It is awarded in odd-numbered years in New York to American recipients, and in even-numbered years in Middelburg, the Netherlands, to honourees from other countries.
