Ukraine arrests suspected informant accused of aiding missile attacks
The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) has detained a man in Odesa suspected of cooperating with Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) and directing missile and drone strikes on the city.
In a statement, the SBU said the suspect is a local taxi driver who allegedly gathered intelligence while transporting passengers, collecting information on the locations of Ukrainian military positions and critical energy infrastructure.
According to investigators, the man recorded the coordinates of potential targets and transmitted the data via the internet. He is also accused of photographing sites during trips, marking their geolocations in mapping services, and compiling reports for Russian intelligence operatives. Communication was reportedly maintained through mobile devices and anonymous messaging channels.
The SBU said the suspect was detained at his residence, where electronic devices and SIM cards containing relevant data were seized. Authorities believe he was recruited online in late 2025 while searching for opportunities to earn “easy money.”
The detainee has been formally charged with high treason committed under martial law. He remains in custody and faces a possible life sentence with confiscation of property if convicted.
