Serbia not begging for EU membership, says FM Djuric
Serbia will continue its path towards European Union membership but will not “beg” to join the bloc, Foreign Minister Marko Djuric has said.
Speaking to reporters in Prague on April 16, Djuric said Belgrade is preparing to adopt a new package of legislation aimed at advancing its accession talks with the European Union, foreign media reports.
He added that Serbia expects to complete the necessary technical requirements for progress in the negotiation process by the end of the year.
Djuric stressed that while Serbia remains committed to European integration, it intends to conduct negotiations on an equal footing.
He said Belgrade would not travel to Brussels to beg for membership.
He also noted that the final decision on any future enlargement ultimately rests with the EU’s institutions.
