Finland rules out hosting nuclear weapons in peacetime
16 April 2026 19:48
Finland has no plans to host nuclear weapons on its territory during peacetime, according to a government report on foreign and security policy reforms.
The document, cited by public broadcaster YLE, stresses that Helsinki remains committed to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT) and other international obligations, effectively ruling out any prospect of Finland becoming a nuclear-armed state.
It states clearly: “Finland does not intend to deploy nuclear weapons on its territory in peacetime.”
