Pakistan’s Punjab launches free public transport to support citizens
Maryam Nawaz Sharif, Chief Minister of Punjab, Pakistan, announced the introduction of free public transport across the province, following a similar initiative by the federal government for Islamabad.
“Till the oil crisis is there, Public transport would be free for the people of Punjab. Passengers will no longer need to purchase tickets for the Orange Line Train, Metro Bus, Speedo Bus, or Green Electric Bus,” he wrote in a post on X.

“I encourage everyone to make full use of these facilities and choose public transport for a more convenient, affordable, and sustainable way to travel,” Nawaz said on the evening of April 3, just hours after Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi announced that the federal government would cover public transport costs in the capital.
