Paris concerned over Israel's intensifying clashes in Gaza

Paris expressed "serious" concern over the statement of the Israeli authorities about the intensification and prolongation of clashes in the Gaza Strip.

The French Foreign Ministry recalled the numerous civilian casualties caused by the systematic bombardment in recent days, Anadolu reports.

"France reiterates with all its determination its call for an immediate (humanitarian) pause that will lead to a ceasefire," the statement said.

The French ministry also drew attention to the principles of international humanitarian law, which provide for the protection of civilians at all times and anywhere in the world. Israel should take concrete measures to protect civilians in the Gaza Strip, the Foreign Ministry said.

At the same time, the French ministry expressed satisfaction with the adoption of UN Security Council Resolution 2720 on December 22. This decision requires urgent delivery of more humanitarian aid to the civilian population in the Gaza Strip, the Foreign Ministry noted.

France in this context calls on Israel to facilitate the access of humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip and to take the necessary measures for its delivery, the report said.

The French Foreign Ministry also called for comprehensive and urgent services at the Kerem Shalom checkpoint.

In addition, the French ministry drew attention to the dire health situation in the exclave.

The civilian population in Gaza is malnourished and even starving. The wounded and sick in the region cannot receive medical care, the Foreign Ministry said.
