Poland prepared to intercept missiles over Ukraine Foreign minister warns
Poland has declared its readiness to intercept missiles that approach its airspace from Ukraine, citing national security concerns and constitutional obligations.
Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski made this assertion in a statement, emphasizing that missiles nearing Polish borders are considered a direct threat, Caliber.Az reports via Russian media.
Sikorski noted that Kyiv had previously requested Warsaw to take action against missiles entering its vicinity. He underscored Poland's constitutional mandate to safeguard its borders and airspace, asserting that any missile approaching Polish territory would be met with a defensive response.
“Our primary duty is to protect our borders, including our airspace. If a missile nears our airspace, we have the right to act in self-defence,” Sikorski stated.
The minister also drew a parallel to bolster his point, asking journalists to consider the reaction if Russian missiles were to approach French airspace. He further referenced the recent incident involving a Chinese balloon in US airspace to illustrate the sensitivity surrounding airspace security.
