EU to summon Russia’s envoy over strikes on Ukraine, Kallas says

The European Union will summon Russia’s envoy to the EU over Russian strikes on Kyiv and other Ukrainian regions, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas said.

Kallas accused Russia of deliberately causing civilian casualties through what she described as indiscriminate attacks. She also condemned a strike on Latvia’s Honorary Consulate in Slovyansk, saying the incident demonstrated Moscow’s “utter disregard for international law,” Caliber.Az reports.

“Russia’s indiscriminate attacks on Kyiv and other regions cause civilian casualties by design, not by accident,” she wrote on X, adding that Latvia has the bloc’s full support.

She said the EU would summon Russia’s envoy over the strikes and that she would propose additional sanctions targeting Russia’s military-industrial complex.

Russia currently does not have a permanent representative to the European Union. Karen Malayan is serving as acting head of the Russian mission.
