Poland seeks nuclear shield from France to bolster national security
The Polish president revealed that he supports the idea of deploying nuclear weapons to his country, naming France as a possible partner in this endeavour.
President Karol Nawrocki spoke about nuclear weapons during his recent interview to the French TF1 network in the course of his first visit to France, Caliber.Az reports.
When asked whether he hopes French nuclear weapons will be stationed in Poland, Nawrocki said that “Poland must be included in the program for the deployment of nuclear weapons.”
“As the President of the Republic of Poland, I believe that Poland should take part in nuclear sharing. It must have its own nuclear, energy, civilian, and military capabilities. The partnership between Poland and France is precisely based on this,” the president emphasized.
He stressed that he wants to do everything possible to guarantee Poland’s security.
French President Emmanuel Macron first spoke about the possibility of sharing its nuclear deterrence with other European countries during his address to the nation on March, 5 2025. He reiterated this point during an interview in May, stating that he was open to expand France's nuclear weapons to neighbours. The country remains the only nuclear power within the European Union, holding around 280 nuclear warheads, following the exit of the United Kingdom from the EU. Britain holds around 225 warheads.
