Heavy rain delays recovery from massive Cuba blackout

Efforts to restore electricity across Cuba were further delayed after hours of heavy rainfall triggered new disruptions to the country's power grid, prolonging a widespread blackout.

According to the state-run power utility UNE, severe weather caused additional failures in the electricity network at 5:05 p.m. local time on August 3, affecting the operation of power generation facilities connected to the national grid.

In a statement posted on its Telegram channel, UNE said crews were working to stabilize the system and restore power as quickly as possible despite the adverse weather conditions.

The renewed outages come as authorities continue efforts to recover from the large-scale blackout, with persistent rainfall complicating repair work and delaying the return of normal electricity service.
