Fars: Iran claims US derailed talks with Oman on Strait of Hormuz

05 August 2026 08:28

Negotiations between Iran and Oman over the status of the Strait of Hormuz would have reached a conclusion long ago if not for US interference, Iran's Fars news agency reports, citing a source.

"If the United States and some of its regional partners had not interfered in the process of bilateral negotiations between Iran and Oman, those talks would certainly have already produced a result," the source said.

The source stressed that Iran is conducting negotiations on the status of the Strait of Hormuz exclusively with Oman.

According to the report, Iran has consistently maintained that the southern route through the Strait of Hormuz is "unsafe and unlawful" and infringes on the country's sovereign rights. It added that recent "mixed signals" from US officials, delivered either directly or through regional partners, had continued to disrupt the Iran-Oman negotiating process.
