Israel signals openness to revising land border at Rome talks with Lebanon

05 August 2026 10:19

The Lebanese delegation at talks with Israel in Rome called for the restoration of the ceasefire and an end to Israeli violations, identifying the issue as its top priority, according to Lebanese newspaper Nida Al Watan, citing informed sources.

According to the report, the ceasefire issue is expected to be discussed at the political level. The sources said U.S. representatives backed Lebanon's position, stating that compliance with the ceasefire is a necessary condition for further progress in the negotiations.

The newspaper also reported that, during the meeting, the Israeli delegation shifted its previous position on the land border issue for the first time and expressed willingness to consider revising the international border. In response, Lebanon included an international lawyer in its delegation.

The Lebanese side also proposed moving to discussions on new pilot zones, but only after agreement is reached on the implementation mechanism and technical details.

Beirut is seeking the creation of pilot zones covering a significant area and is calling for clear operational rules to prevent disputes during the implementation of any future agreements, the report said.
