Poland signs major contract for ammunition purchase
Poland’s National Defence Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz has said Polish authorities have signed a major contract for the purchase of artillery ammunition.
"The Armaments Agency has signed a large contract for the purchase of ammunition," said the minister, without disclosing details of the agreement, Caliber.Az reports, citing Polish media.
He noted that the new government does not intend to roll back the national program for creating an ammunition reserve and plans to increase production within the country.
However, the details of the previous government's deal with the Amunicja Polska consortium, which was supposed to build an ammunition production factory, will be reviewed for possible violations.
The national program for creating an ammunition reserve was adopted in the spring of 2023 by Mateusz Morawiecki's government. Over several years, large purchases of ammunition were planned abroad, and a specially created consortium was supposed to build a plant for their production. The new leadership of the Ministry of National Defence believes that the state's interests were not properly protected in this process.
