Knife attack in Germany leaves two dead, including toddler
A knife attack in the German town of Aschaffenburg in Bavaria on January 22 resulted in the deaths of a 41-year-old man and a two-year-old boy, according to German police.
The attack also left two others seriously injured, who are currently receiving medical treatment, Caliber.Az reports, citing foreign media.
Authorities have arrested a 28-year-old man from Afghanistan in connection with the incident. Police confirmed there are no other suspects at large and stated there is no ongoing threat to the public. While the motive for the attack remains unclear, officials emphasized that it is not being classified as a terrorist act.
The suspect attempted to flee the scene by running along train tracks, causing temporary interruptions to local train services. He was apprehended shortly thereafter.
Police are urging witnesses to come forward with any information regarding the attack. Details regarding the identities of the victims and the suspect have not been disclosed.
This incident adds to a concerning trend of violent attacks in Germany, which has heightened security fears and intensified discussions surrounding migration issues in the lead-up to the parliamentary elections scheduled for February 23. Recently, a separate attack in Magdeburg involved a car-ramming incident that claimed six lives and injured around 200 others.
