Polish far-right MEP calls for Israel to be declared terrorist state
Polish far-right MEP Grzegorz Braun called for Israel to be designated a terrorist state during a European Parliament debate, coinciding with the anniversary of the October 7 attacks.
Following a speech by European Parliament President Roberta Metsola, which addressed the ongoing violence and loss of life in Gaza, MEPs observed a moment of silence for the victims, Caliber.Az reports citing foreign media.
Braun criticized Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu, labelling him and his government as part of a "criminal terrorist organization." He invoked inflammatory rhetoric, comparing the language used by some Israeli officials about Palestinians to that of Nazi leaders.
Last year, Braun made headlines for disrupting a Hanukkah celebration in the Polish parliament, an act that resulted in injury to a participant trying to intervene.
Metsola condemned the brutal acts committed during the October 7 attacks by Hamas, emphasizing that such violence can never be justified.
EU diplomacy chief Josep Borrell highlighted the need for peace and mutual recognition, while rejecting Braun's harsh characterization of the Israeli government, asserting that Israel is a democratic state and should not be equated with Hamas or Hezbollah.
