Poland has delivered its first Leopard tanks to Ukraine, Defence Minister Mariusz Blaszczak told a meeting of the National Security Council on February 24.
"The prime minister couldn't be here, he went to Kyiv to bring Leopard tanks which are the first batch delivered to Ukraine," President Andrzej Duda said in his opening remarks at the meeting in Warsaw, The Jerusalem Post reports.
Earlier Bloomberg reported citing an official who declined to be named that Poland is going to send Leopard 2 battle tanks to Ukraine on February 24, the first of 14 vehicles the government has promised.
Poland was among the first to announce that it would transfer German Leopard 2 tanks to the Ukrainian Armed Forces. Future deliveries of Leopard tanks to Ukraine were also announced by Germany, Denmark, Spain, Canada, the Netherlands, Norway, and Portugal. The UK and the USA announced plans to send Challenger and Abrams. US President Joe Biden said that the allies plan to supply a total of around 700 tanks to the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
