Hungarian PM condemns European Commission president’s Ukraine support plans
Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán has described the speech by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen as scandalous, in which she announced plans for military support to Ukraine during a session of the European Parliament in Strasbourg.
The Hungarian prime minister shared details of the speech on his official X page, reflecting ongoing tension between Hungary and some EU leaders over their approach to the war in Ukraine, Caliber.Az reports.
“Today President von der Leyen announced the new plans of the European Commission: Ukraine gets money and weapons, European taxpayers get to pay the bill. Scandal!” Orban wrote on X.
Von der Leyen has outlined the European Union’s strategy for supporting Ukraine, identifying three key priorities for action:
Firstly, the EU aims to continue bolstering Ukraine's defence efforts amid the ongoing conflict.
Secondly, the EU is committed to completing its gradual phase-out of fossil fuel dependence on Russia.
Lastly, the EU seeks to accelerate Ukraine’s path to membership, moving forward with the process of its integration into the European Union.
