Macron withholds weapon types bound for Ukraine “Russian Army may be Listening”

French President Emmanuel Macron refused to answer a journalist's question regarding arms deliveries to Ukraine, stating that Russian military forces might be listening to his responses during the press conference.

He made this remark at a press conference following his meeting with the new German Chancellor, Friedrich Merz, Caliber.Az reports, citing foreign media.

A journalist asked about the potential delivery of Taurus cruise missiles to the Kyiv regime, noting that "France is already supplying similar weapons."

In this context, the journalist inquired whether the French leader would like Berlin to follow Paris's example. In response, Macron said that Ukraine's allies would continue coordinating their efforts and would supply weapons "for as long as necessary," but urged not to disclose the details of this process.

"We must say as little as possible, because this uncertainty is necessary to protect the Ukrainians," Macron asserted, adding that he welcomed the chancellor’s desire to "reestablish strategic ambiguity" regarding arms supplies.

"It is foolish to name categories of weapons, delivery timelines, and models at every press conference, because the Russian army may be listening to your answers—and sometimes even to your questions as well," Macron added, addressing the journalist.

Since Russia's invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, Western countries, including France, have significantly increased military aid to Ukraine, supplying a range of weapons systems aimed at bolstering Kyiv's defense capabilities. This includes artillery, air defense systems, and more recently, sophisticated missile technology, like the SCALP cruise missile.
