Israeli party leader slams government's decision to mobilise 60,000 reservists “A blow to national security”
The leader of the Yisrael Beiteinu party, Avigdor Lieberman, has sharply criticised the Israeli government's recent military decisions, calling the mobilisation of 60,000 reservists and the push for legislation against draft evasion “a blow to national security.”
Speaking at a faction meeting of Yisrael Beiteinu, Liberman claimed that the decision to expand military operations was driven by political interests rather than security needs, Caliber.Az reports, citing Israeli media.
“This view is not mine alone—it is shared by the General Staff, the Shin Bet, and Mossad,” he said.
According to Liberman, the government's actions reflect a desire to maintain power, not to defeat Hamas. “A government that couldn’t destroy Hamas in a year and seven months won’t do it in seven years either,” he stated.
Drawing a historical parallel, Lieberman compared Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's strategy to that of the Allied powers during World War II.
“They knew about the extermination of the Jews and chose not to save them immediately, deciding instead to first defeat Nazism. Netanyahu is doing the same thing today—this is a political war. First, we must bring the hostages home, and only then eliminate Hamas,” he said.
