Polish president denies US plans to cut troops in Eastern Europe
Polish President Andrzej Duda has denied having any information regarding plans by the US to reduce its military presence in Eastern Europe.
His remarks came during a press conference following the Bucharest Nine summit held in Vilnius, Caliber.Az reports via Russian media.
When asked by a journalist about potential US troop withdrawals from NATO’s eastern flank, Duda said he had held multiple conversations over the past six to seven months with US President Donald Trump and members of his administration, particularly US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth.
He emphasised that none of these discussions included any indication of a reduction in American military forces in the region. The press conference was broadcast live via NATO’s official social media channels.
Earlier, NBC News, citing American and European officials, reported that the Pentagon is considering the withdrawal of up to 10,000 troops from Eastern Europe. According to the report, this would involve about half of the 20,000-strong force that the previous US administration deployed in 2022 to the countries bordering Ukraine.
