Polynesia continues to struggle with consequences of France’s colonial policy
Representatives of French Polynesia to the UN Carlyle Corbin has said that Polynesia continues to struggle with the consequences of France's colonial policy.
She made remarks at the conference on “Decolonization: Empowerment and Development of Women” organized by the Baku Initiative Group, according to Report.
"From 1844 to 1846, there was an ongoing war with the French colonizers. Then France annexed the islands and established its rights," Corbin underlined.
Corbin noted that the people of Polynesia also suffered badly from France's nuclear testing. "This went on for generations. The consequences have affected both the people and the nature of Polynesia.”
Organized by the Baku Initiative Group, an event under the motto “Decolonization: Empowerment and Development of Women” has got underway in Baku.
