President Ilham Aliyev has reaffirmed Azerbaijan’s commitment to supporting Syria in its post-conflict reconstruction efforts, emphasising the country’s willingness to contribute to initiatives aimed at restoring stability.
The remarks were made during a meeting in Antalya with Ahmad Al-Sharaa, Transitional President of the Syrian Arab Republic, held on the sidelines of President Aliyev’s visit to Türkiye, Caliber.Az reports, citing local media.
At the meeting, President Aliyev welcomed the recent political changes in Syria and extended his congratulations to President Al-Sharaa. He noted that, in light of these developments, Azerbaijan had swiftly dispatched a delegation to Syria and reactivated its embassy in Damascus, which had remained closed for years due to the Assad regime’s policies.
President Aliyev reiterated Azerbaijan’s readiness to contribute to the reconstruction process in Syria, particularly in efforts aimed at consolidating national stability.
In turn, President Al-Sharaa expressed gratitude for Azerbaijan’s support. He underscored the significance of future cooperation with Azerbaijan in key sectors, including energy, infrastructure, and security.
Highlighting the efforts underway to restore stability in Syria, the transitional leader also raised concerns about the ongoing influence of external factors on the situation in the country.
The two leaders discussed the prospects of establishing a trilateral cooperation format involving Azerbaijan, Syria, and Türkiye. They also agreed on facilitating reciprocal visits of high-level officials and business representatives to enhance bilateral ties.
President Ilham Aliyev invited President Ahmad Al-Sharaa to visit Azerbaijan. The invitation was accepted with appreciation.
