President Aliyev congratulates Türkiye on PKK's dissolution during meeting with Turkish defence minister PHOTO

President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev received Minister of National Defence of Türkiye Yaşar Güler in Baku on May 13, commending Türkiye’s success in eliminating the PKK terrorist organisation.

President Aliyev congratulated Türkiye on what he described as a historic development and noted that he had already extended his personal congratulations to President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Caliber.Az reports, citing local media.

Stressing the broader significance of the PKK's dissolution, the Azerbaijani leader said this achievement brings joy not only to Türkiye but also to the Azerbaijani people.

President Aliyev underscored the decisive role played by President Erdoğan’s political will, the operational strength of the Turkish Armed Forces, and the unity of Turkish society in compelling the PKK to admit defeat after more than four decades of terrorism.

Aliyev emphasised that this event is important not only for Türkiye but also for all regional nations, as it enables them to live in an atmosphere of peace and security.

Minister Güler, in turn, conveyed the greetings of President Erdoğan and expressed gratitude for President Aliyev’s congratulations. He also recalled the firm response delivered to Armenian terrorists in past years under Aliyev’s leadership, describing it as a historic lesson.

Güler declared that Türkiye had concluded its 41-year battle against terrorism with victory and voiced confidence that the result would help pave the way for enduring peace in the region.

The two sides praised the growing cooperation between the armed forces of Azerbaijan and Türkiye, noting the continued success of joint military exercises.

They expressed confidence that the brotherly and allied relations between Azerbaijan and Türkiye would continue to develop successfully in all areas, including the military sphere. The close personal relationship between Presidents Aliyev and Erdoğan was highlighted as a key factor in the strengthening of strategic and allied relations between the two brotherly nations.

Discussions during the meeting also focused on future cooperation.
