President Aliyev, US Senator discuss Azerbaijan’s role in Middle Corridor PHOTO
Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and US Senate Foreign Relations Committee member Steve Daines discussed that Azerbaijan plays a vital role in the development of the Middle Corridor during a meeting on May 29.
During the meeting, the sides underlined that due to its developed transport infrastructure and political relations with regional countries, Azerbaijan has become one of the key logistics hubs in the Eurasian region and plays a vital role in the development of the Middle Corridor, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
Senator Daines first conveyed his congratulations to President Ilham Aliyev on Azerbaijan's Independence Day. He expressed his belief in the significant potential for further strengthening the friendship and partnership between the United States and Azerbaijan, with the senator praising Azerbaijani peacekeepers’ critical role in securing Kabul Airport during the Afghanistan withdrawal.
According to him, the Azerbaijani soldiers served shoulder-to-shoulder with US troops in Afghanistan, and were among the last military personnel to depart the country. He conveyed his special appreciation for their contribution.
He emphasised the importance of enhancing ties with Azerbaijan and other Central Asian countries and called for more frequent visits by US senators to the region.
In turn, President Aliyev expressed appreciation for the continued attention to Azerbaijan-US relations, referencing a congratulatory letter from President Donald Trump that emphasised opportunities for advancing cooperation in security, energy, and economic sectors. The President also acknowledged and appreciated the attention given to fostering relations with Azerbaijan during President Trump's first term.
The discussion also covered other topics of mutual interest.
The meeting concluded with an exchange of gifts, as Senator Daines presented President Aliyev with a keepsake.
