Russia resumes strikes on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure as ceasefire ends
Russia has renewed attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure following a brief period of energy ceasefire, the Ukrainian Ministry of Energy reported.
The strikes have caused widespread power outages across Kharkiv, Sumy, Dnipropetrovsk, and Cherkasy regions.
The ministry also confirmed that yesterday Russian forces targeted a bus carrying energy sector workers near Pavlohrad, killing 16 people.
Severe weather has compounded the situation, leaving more than 160 settlements in Odesa, Mykolaiv, and Kirovohrad regions without electricity. Regional energy crews are working around the clock to restore damaged power lines.
Russia had previously stated that the ceasefire would remain in effect until February 1, coinciding with planned talks in Abu Dhabi, however, the meeting has been postponed.
