Russia summons Swedish diplomat over drone attack on trade mission in Stockholm
A Swedish chargé d'affaires was summoned to the Russian Foreign Ministry on Monday afternoon in response to a drone attack on the Russian trade mission in Stockholm.
According to the Russian Embassy in Sweden, the incident occurred on the morning of July 5, when paint was dropped onto the mission’s premises from an unmanned aerial vehicle, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.
The embassy noted that such provocations have been taking place for over a year.
The Russian Embassy condemned the incident as a violation of the 1961 Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, which mandates that host countries ensure the security of diplomatic missions. The embassy noted that similar attacks, involving drones dropping paint, have been ongoing for over a year, with at least 15 such incidents since May 2024, including a similar attack on June 17, 2025.
Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova described the situation as the embassy operating “literally in combat conditions” and criticized Swedish authorities for their failure to investigate or prosecute those responsible. The Russian side has demanded a thorough investigation, the identification and prosecution of perpetrators, and measures to prevent future attacks, questioning whether Swedish authorities are “unable or unwilling” to fulfill their obligations.
